This year is different than last in that the NY trip is during midwinter break. Considering that, I’m consolidating the performances into one week. The show will probably (pending admin approval) open on Thursday, March 1, and also have a matinee on Saturday, March 3 in addition to the standard Friday-Saturday-Sunday evening schedule. The upshot is that, like DRACULA, we’re adding a performance. The Thursday doesn’t really count as a disruption; we’d be putting on the show, anyway, but would normally be considering it to be final dress.
During first and second AP, we need to look at when Velma takes the stand and we both reached for the gun. We will sneak a lunch break in there. Thank you! Almost there!
We should be taking our bows in about 10 to 15 minutes at the latest. If you were providing a ride, feel free to come by!
Come over to the Bishop Center if you would/can. There’s a choreographer waiting for you. With bells on.
Oh! We’re working like lightning. We should be done between 715 and 730. Thank you for your patience and all your help!
The big push is on. Timely attendance is non-negotiable from this point forward. Being on hand for the coming rehearsals is the only way this show will be a success and is a requirement. Similarly, take care of yourself when not at school. I believe you must be here for at least 4 classes in any day to attend a rehearsal or performance.
Over the next few days, there will be many questions as we put things together. After you get off stage from a number, focus on what you need to do next in a serious, “lifeboat drill” sense. Please stay in character and avoid the temptation to laugh, break character, and comment on the plusses and minuses of what just happened on stage.
See above! If questions arise, please text me or call (Mr. McCray) at 865-748-3636. There are no bad questions. We will try to update the blog with our nightly progress when we can. We LOVE having audience members. If you’re providing a ride or even just have extra time, why wait in the car when you can take a comfortable seat and watch the progress.
So that you can prepare for Tuesday, here are the pages that we are going to be covering (sections of)…
This will be stuff that focuses on dialogue. often it’s just a few lines or something an announcer might say. Although you may have your script in your hand to jot down blocking, please be prepared to work all of that off book directly after. When we work off book, keep in mind that until this weekend, you may call “line” and someone who is on book will feed you your dialogue until you can pick up.
Also, please bring a notepad and something to write with from now on if you are not already doing so. Unless an ILP indicates otherwise, please take notes down by hand and review them every day before we start. It saves you from potentially invasive distractions from the digital world and never needs recharging. If you have an ILP that suggests another form of notetaking, and you feel comfortable letting me know, I encourage you to do so.
Everyone’s putting their best effort forward on this, and I really appreciate it. This is an enormously ambitious project, and I’m proud of the spirit with which you’re taking it on. Keep applying that same work ethic across the board and do so with my thanks! Take care of yourselves, and if there’s anything I can do to help make your lives easier and jobs more fulfilling, please let me know!
